Beautiful Stranger

Beautiful stranger ...

If I could but truly
know you for a
moment out of time
and place, by candle
and moon light,
amid all the soft
and lovely shadows,
marshaled for such an
occasion by the night,
when the world
could stand still
for a little while
beyond all desires,
illusions, and sorrows
of the past, and you
might choose to lower
the drawbridge of
your heart; and beyond
the relentless wheels of
chance, fate or destiny,
we might tempt a love
that would talk against
     Time.

The most engaging aspect of your poetry Bruce, is its 'conversational' flow. One might hear these words spoken as well as to read them.
