I Can't Fix it This Time |

I went back in time to post this poem. It was written in the morning of January 8, 2008. In late afternoon of the next day, my wife died. <><><><><><><><> Wife of mine I feel so helpless, This time I'm in great distress. In the past I've been able to Fix our problems with magic glue. Oh, we have had a few setbacks, Some assailed us in two-prong attacks. We held our own, did not give in, Determined to beat it and win. With you by my side I hung tough, Until the problem I did cuff. Nothing could penetrate and harm, Side by side we fought arm and arm. It is different this time old girl, Life's hurricane has been unfurled. Giving me pause, and time to think, This time everything's out of sync. The years have come to you at last, Given you something I can't blast. It has dug deep and found your core, I hardly know you anymore. I scream aloud and yes, I cry, Cause I can't fix this on the sly. This is something new in our life, It's struck down my beautiful wife. I am here and will always be, I'm weathered like an old oak tree. Slightly bent and worse for the wear, But I straighten myself and glare. I can't fix it this time my sweet, But if we can, death we will cheat. My soul is gray and in anguish, Bringing you home my only wish. If I cannot fix it this time, And if all I can to do is rhyme, I give thanks to the night we met, And tell the world we aren't done yet. ©January 8, 2009 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ [This message has been edited by JerryPat2 (03-22-2016 12:11 PM).] |

Traumatic experience leaves many behind feeling like an empty shell. Love this verse.... "I am here and will always be, I'm weathered like an old oak tree. Slightly bent and worse for the wear, But I straighten myself and glare." Like Kipling wrote... "If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve you long after they are gone, And so hold on when there's nothing in you, Except the will that says to them hold on!" Yep, Kipling wrote it better, but I was on the same road. I will never forget my mindset as I wrote this poem, longhand even. Never before had I looked into the eyes of the dead, as they were still living. Ripped my thought process to hell and back. She was at rest, finally the next day, and I am almost ashamed to admit it, Eric, but I too was at rest. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Don't think that's anything for you to be ashamed of. I know life is a precious gift but it goes way to far left sometimes and relief is needed. Ever see "Million Dollar Baby" with Eastwood and Freeman in it...... Good example.. Eric true love never looks after it's own interests |

sometimes, bringing up sad memories is a healing by itself...but still in doing so,holding on to the good times you had is part of the healing, woll bring you a smile too. |
