When I think of all the good wines I have tasted, I loved those good wines. When I think of all the down time that I've wasted, Can't change those down times, When I was drinking, My shallow thinking, Thought I knew the right thing, But it came to be frightening, The answers I kept using, Finally found conclusion, By a rushing mountain stream. When I think of all my girlfriends that were lovers, They were such good friends. When I think of all the old friends I've seen covered, I miss those old friends When I saw them dying, Never hid my crying, I hear them talking, Lovers and friends often, In memories remaining, Tender never fading, From the choice inside of me. Bridge: As the bell tolls sounding passing time, And seasons bring new mysteries. I hear those old friends cry, In that rushing mountain stream, I thank God while I'm alive, They're waiting there for me....... When I think of all the deep sleep I've been missing, I need that deep sleep. When I think of all the good deeds I kept wishing, I do those good deeds. Love I was faking, Hearts I was breaking. Now I'm realizing, To myself no lying, Old friends never change, Their spirit stays the same, It's the choice inside of me. true love never looks after it's own interests |

An honest, in-depth piece of writing, the like I haven't seen recently, Eric. My poem, if I had written this I would have had to, if I was being honest, would been much the same, except I would have to include parts of those two lost decades of mine. That part of my poem would not have treated me so well. Eric, I think you are a good man. I think you have lived an exemplary life. Yes, you made your mistakes, but beneath those mistake-prone days there was within you the good, wholesome Eric. Sometimes we just have to get the bad out of our lives in order to the get to the good within. Excellent!!! ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Thanks Jerry, I surely appreciate that heart felt reply and I understand where you're coming from. I have always tried to show a portion of the good in me but at times it just didn't come out. Used to surface at the strangest times. Any bar room brawl I was ever in I was always trying to stand up for someone who couldn't defend themselves very well..... However, like you in these mellow years I have surfaced more of the peace and calm that I always wanted in the first place. Life is like a waterfall of experiences. Some get washed away into the past and some stay with a person forever. Thanks for the reply. Eric true love never looks after it's own interests |
