Merlin, and Boy-Painting by American artist- Scott Gustafson.

Small bed,
Cotton sheets
Thin rays
Dawn sun
Through open drapes.
*
A boy that's seven
Hardly pauses
As he wiggles
Through the crack
That splits
The world
Of sleep,
And wake.
*
Once conscious
He questions
All adult answers
With a why?
*
"Why the blue in
Touch me nots?"
"Why do turtles
Eat up bugs?"
Not to mention,
Why
Sometimes
That
Mud turns soup
And feels so wet
de-luscious
As it squishes,
Soft, beneath
Your bare-foot feet?
*
Days have long legs,
Run faster
Than a boy can,
He tries
To win the race,
To play-
But night approaches-
Follows-chases
Him towards mom, and home.
*
Faking a bath, he cheats
Splashing water on his face
To try to fool his mother-
Then jumping-nearly falling.
Comatose in bed...

Caught!

"This joke is not funny"
"But I don't feel dirty....."
" Wash your ears this time"
And other words he dreads,
As back to bath, he pokes...
*
Heaven is a seven,
Year old body--
Clean-and cool
Between the sheets
At the end of the adventure
Of a torrid summer day,
Then
Falling fast asleep.
*
Merlin guards his cavern gate
Sidhe staff in hand,
He patient waits
The man, ungrown
To wake-
Guards him
While he soundly sleeps..
As

Tomorrow is the day he'll teach,
The boy to pull a sword from stone.

The link didn't work for me, but no matter. My imagination created its own picture. That's the beauty of your poetry. I always see your words.

Lori

You guessed right...The seven year old boy is me..

My female cousin, the same age as me, believed in fairys, and wizards..I told her I couldn't see them...she told me to squint my eyes, and I would see them, and Merlin...
I couldn't then, but I can see them now.

Peace to you, and to all that you love..

loved your poem, between philosophy and fairy tale, the images are very relevant and sweet like in a dream, imagination rules here, thanks

Sometimes (most of the time), I don't look at pictures until after I've read and absorbed a poem. I like the poem to take me on its own journey. So ... now, I'll go check out the picture.

Thanks, ice.
