She's the Last To Leave the Fair |

~She's the Last to Leave the Fair~ She's the last to leave the fair, this hopeful child with initials carved on her favorite carnival horse. Misty blue eyes that smile in the rain, canvas filled walls of magic explosions, created from the wands of her talented hands. This carefree compassionate heart with hippie soul, born too late to be part of that generation, but she would have marched at the forefront, tie-dyed skirt blowing in the wind, ideals braided in her hair. She's the last to leave the fair, and I'd like to bottle her zest and spritz the world. "Oh..to live on Sugar Mountain.. with the barkers and the colored balloons" ~Neil Young © Jan S. quote: That just says it all, rainy, and it says a lot. I have met many who wish they had been of age for the hippie goings on . . . I was there, for the most part in Los Angeles and San Francisco, touching base in New Orleans for a while. It was something else, believe me. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

What caught my eye was the title, “She's the Last to Leave the Fair” I truly can’t think of a more intriguing one, and that’s from someone that has read masses of poems. The poem itself goes beyond simple nostalgia to wish be born in a time when we could travel on the Orient Express of the 1930s. Or to dine with Oscar Wilde, Dickens, and Kipling just to listen to the conservation, the list goes on. Returning to your title, I’m reminded of the old English folk song “I'm seventeen come Sunday” How old are you, my pretty fair maid? How old are you, my honey? She answered me right cheerfully, I'm seventeen come Sunday. Thank you for this delightful poem, and if I’m allowed, with a big hug for that title. Cari. |
