     What a Poet Must Believe

I simply must believe …
that somewhere in the boundless
   sweep of inexorable hours
a place beyond time exists somehow,
nestled perhaps between a sky
   of endless clouds
and a forest of velvet silence,
or along the sparkling sands
   of some noctilucent sea
forever rippling in the quicksilver
      moonlight,
where all gypsy souls and
   vagabond dreamers
come to bathe in the starry depths
of an infinite universe,
and, where it is never too late
to join the quintessent dance of
   perfect love.
