About my Dad Carl.A.Martens 1904 - 1981 His death was gentle as was his living of life. Not by reprimand, but by quiet example he taught. Love, tolerance,. understanding, forgiveness and the meaning of devotion. A Strong, proud, independent man but not without a soft interior; he showed his love not by touch or words, but by the way he lived his life.We are not to mourn but celebrate his life. He needs no stone engraved to his memory. Monuments crack and crumble) His remembrance will be in every act of human kindness which any of his decedents display. This was his legacy. |

Jo- Your words make me wish that I had known him and at the same time get the feeling I did. Lori |

This is so very, very special, Jo. There are not many men with the quiet dignity of your father. Mine was that way, but it got lost because of the terror my mother gave to the world, the immediate family for sure. She left a scar on my heart that time can't seem to erase. Through it all my father suffered her abuse, and the abuse of me.That is the only thing about him that hurts. Still, he was a good man and everybody who knew him liked it. I never heard the man use a curse word. "Well I'll be John Brown" was his curse word. ~*~ It's not that the man did not know how to juggle, he just didn't have the balls to do it. ~*~ |

Lorie I know you would have loved him. I never met anyone friend or family who did not tell me something good about this man.He was in the army for four years and worked on the Panama canal. He taught me to sew buttons on at an early age and was the type to nurtur. When he married he also took in my mother's two younger sisters as they were all orphans. He was a boxer and later drove trucks for the A&P grocery store. All was all man but a tender one. thanks Lorie |

Bluesy,I had written this and my son had it printed in high school for me to pass out at his wake. And yes he did have a stone with his name. As an ex army man it was a free one.I had to have them break the one I bought and used the free one as a tribute to him.Thank you for reading and your input. jo |
