There you sit
in the sun
behind the windows
to warm your bones.
With closed eyes
you drift off
into visions of youth
when you ran along
the sunny shores
of your Ionian Sea
and plunged
into its crystal waters
enjoying life
and the apparently
infinite stretch
of bliss and freedom.

You wake up
from your reverie
when the cat
wants your attention.
You sigh when
you stand up
to reenter the now.
And you sigh again
when you leave
the dream of youth,
allowing it to fade
rippling endlessly
in the folds of time,
hidden somewhere
in your brain

Yep! That is me big time, Margherita! More and more I lapse into this kinda lethargic way of doing and thinking . . . Eh . . . What ya gonna do about it, but hang tough, feed tha cat, walk the dog .. .

Thank you, dear Jerry. Yes, I know, it's something elderly people can relate to. This picture of my husband inspired me. When he was young he thought that he would sit at the seaside as an old man and watch the waves and the endless extension of the sea. Now he sits, but in the warm living room ... Yet, we must take every day as a gift and not allow sadness to overcome.

Have a nice walk with Zoe! Zelda sleeps near the radiator.

You are sooooo nice! Ifeel the same about my Billy but him and me aren't too old yet! But when we are I hope we're just like you two!

It was just a thought which made them run. It was just an act that killed them.

Mon cher Margherita,

I believe he is sitting at the seaside and watching the waves and the endless extension of the sea.

You are a good wife and a blessing for him I know.

Here's to you and here's to me and should we ever disagree, here's to me!

Margherita, oh yes, staring out the window into the past and dozing in the warm sun. There is nothing better! However sadly, most of us get to this time and place and eventually start losing our memories. But while we're soaking up the sun, it is a glorious place to be.

I have times when I am there. But I can still write haikus and for that I am grateful.

Wonderful piece of writing, MissMarti

Thank you kindly, my dear Poet friends, your comments warmed my heart. I am really grateful for your sensitivity expressed here on this thread.

When physical problems represent limitations, we still can travel using our mind and imagination can give still intense emotions.

Lovely write, Margherita.  I think we owe it to ourselves to remember our youth and the things we did so effortlessly. When I do that I sometimes smile to myself in wonder that I did some of the things I did.  Yes, there's a lot tucked away in our brains.

Hugs!

Thank you from my heart, dear Helen, for your kind comment! Yes beautiful memories are tucked away as a means of healing for our darker days, I think.

Youth is such a well of gold and we delight in it without any fear, we DARE! Like you, sometimes I wonder about the things I did in my youth. We saw the possibilities and jumped into them!

Love and hugs.

When there is so little to look forward to the mind compensates to look back on life and I suppose to be jerked roughly to the here and now is an intrusion. You told it well Margherita, well done, a thoughtful write indeed.

Thank you, Cari, for stopping by and commenting so kindly. I agree with what you think. For people who were very dynamic all through their life, it's a great challenge to forcedly calm down and accept the limitations due to age.

Keeping the mind active is important, as long as we are interested in what life still offers, we are safe.

Lovely words and wonderful insight Margherita.

Margherita this is honestly expressed as these wonderful bodies and minds we are born with wear out and memories become the reflections of yesterday making the reality of now an escape.
These words are so true

You sigh when
you stand up
to reenter the now.
And you sigh again
when you leave
the dream of youth,

However, the gifts of those dreams
and memories allow your time in
the sun to flow back into the self
esteem you had then and praise the
accomplishments of that strength
you can silently boast about now.

true love never looks after it's own interests
