early morning few hours before daybreak August hot time even that early walked down a road leaving my hometown before daylight few dollars in my pocket going west, young man, going west by thumb most of the way why you going to California those who stopped to pick me up wanted to know looking for my momma my reply it was a lie a lie twice my lie Sam and Orean's lie cause that's the lie they told me when I asked them about my real mother often wondered how my life would have been if they'd just told me the truth if they hadn't lied just told me the truth could it all have been avoided my scrapes with the law how I treated my women my kids many things I hang my head about now hang-ups personified all because one question was met with lies that and the beatings I think I could have even overcome the beatings it was the lies that did me in I know, I know, kids are suppose to rise about these childhood traumas some can't whadda you do then for a lot of people you give back what you had to take I did sorry to say I foisted upon others my burden except the lies made it a point to never lie that's something I guess ©August 23, 2015 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

quote:Its easy to tell a weed to become a rose, but if you're the 'weed', you may not feel that way. I'm, a "weed" that never became a rose JerryPat, but I'm still trying. I guess that despite the literal impossibility, I will keep on trying until I either fall over, get whacked upside my head with a cultivating hoe, or get sprayed with a tankful of 'Round-Up'. Introspection can be good for the soul. I hope it works that way for you. In the meantime, keep dodging those 'hoes'! 88's friend She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast". |

I agree with TF. You are not now the same as the boy you were. You lived your hurts and then some but the man you have become is not the same. There are many today who would forgive you the lie if they knew the story.Live as the man you have become and enjoy your life. Best to you Jo |

You traveled a hard road Mr. Bolton. Harder than some, easier then others, but it was all yours and you're still around when many have already paid their tab and left the premises. I tell you this, for whatever it is worth coming from me to you at this point in your life, that you would never have to hang your head in my company. You're a fine poet with a gritty truth in your words. With best regards, Capo Martini Here's to you and here's to me and should we ever disagree, here's to me! |

I think every child has the right to know who his parents are, somehow the truth will surface sooner or later and the trauma will be worse then ... I am sorry for what you endured as a child. But all the pain has made you the man you are now. A man who speaks the truth, a Poet and a writer, who is greatly appreciated. And a Father who loves his offspring. In the end we have to consider that every day is a new beginning and an opportunity to be at peace with the past and to welcome the new gifts of life. A thought provoking write, which holds sadness but also hope. Peace and love. Margherita |

I remember when a 'Hard Drive' was vacuum operated 10" wipers with a split windshield, sealed beam headlights which were begging power from a six volt battery and generator on a night of pouring rain on a pot-holed infested road with my girlfriend giggling and playing with my...ears with 10 miles more to go before seeing the city lights of home. 25 years later I bought my first computer and now nobody knows what I'm talking about. Well, maybe a few... 88's and best wishes with your new unit JerryPat! She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast". |

The honesty about the hurtful effects of lies is profound in this piece. Wells said, JP. |
