Never Blooming Rose Forth from shadow, a warmth in snow On ageless poet tread; Dream lost to time, curse put to rhyme Every day in his head. Her sweetness lost ever his cost, He's walked here ever since. A hollow moan cloaked 'forrest's groan, Ever her fallen prince. She wails by night, the grim delight Of powers none should preach. Locked in her tower, hour by hour, Ever out of his reach. She once sang by, with softest sigh, The window as he passed. Now silence cries for all that dies Tallied to sins amassed. A younger day they made their way Along this very path. A dream too pure for youth's endure, Too soon their aftermath. A perfect rose, 'gainst the cold snows, The last of gifts they shared. Ne'er gain to bloom 'pon fields of gloom, Hearts anything but spared. Of all loved most, now but a ghost That whispers in his mind; He wanders here through pain and fear, Knowing what he won't find. Still search he must; snow, sand, or dust With hand never to close Over stem of forfeited gem, Their never rebloomed rose. Michael Anderson 12/10/2015 |

Your masterfully written poem plunges me into a profound melancholy, dear Michael. So many hearts still are wounded and they still tread the same path of yesterday to feel again the sweet fragrance of what was and to revive the pain of loss. No one does it better than you. I think so many will relate. I believe there are new roses who are wasted, not allowed to bloom, because we do not cultivate free space within our hearts. Hearts have a wonderful quality, they can expand infinitely ... Love and peace. Margherita "Love is the One who masters all things; |
