Thoughts of Emily |

Thoughts of Emily I don’t belong here I am drawn to the wild country To the rolling hills and sounding waters Undressing the years to find my peace In your world ~ I will find you Above the Penidstone Crags Where the west wind blows Singing through the fairy cave Cleansing face and mind ~ Though seeking answers I fear to trespass on your solitude Does such untouched passion Lie only in the moving pen To fervent for mortal hands to hold? ~ Please Though the dice of birth Has cast me far away I am your sister too I share your thoughts, your words ~ Know then Here is my lover Heathcliffe is but a name I sleep in the arms of my beloved In the cold earth we are as one The poem is obviously on Emily Bronte. An American lady on the trip to Howorth was fascinated to know if Emily had ever had a lover but as no one knows the only one who can answer her question is Emily herself so this poem was inspired by her asking Emily. Hope you enjoy. |

Excellent read, Cari. It seems to me that Emily wrote herself into the story. Perhaps Heathcliff is her fantasy lover...and she is portrayed as Catherine, in Wuthering? fine last lines in this one... "Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance." |

Wonderfully visual, romantic poem, maybe the old saying "write what you know also gives a clue", I hope so. Enjoyed reading this and sorry for replying so late. Thanks Pete |
