the mothers sized Alma up
as a girl who would entice their sons
into groping backseat maneuvers
the mothers looked at her
as if she was wearing
a sullied negligee smelling gamy
and sporting a hickey both sides of her neck
Alma could never charm the mothers
but the fathers ogled her
she was what the mothers
kept warning their sons about
she was trouble
the alley cat
you didn't bring home
she was the dog-eared dirty book
you dare not leave out for mother to find
Alma was the centerfold
you took to your bed every night
Alma should have come of age
in the 1960's instead of the
Eisenhower years of the 1950's
she wouldn't have stood out so

Alma sounds like she could have been an 8-pager Queen Mr. Bolton. Of the "Almas'" known to me, I cherished each of them. After all, an Alma by any other name is still an Alma.

Your splendid tale truly whet my appetite. It may be time to give Ida a ring. You'd like her Mr. Bolton. She's a lot like Alma.

Here's to you and here's to me and should we ever disagree, here's to me!

Good morning, Mr Martini, none of us are perfect, some less than others. Appreciate you took the time to  read and comment. And yeah, I'm sure I'd like Ida.

I remember a small river town in Wisconsin on the banks of Big Muddy called Alma, but I'm certain I never ran into her there.

Very cool story JerryPat and you tell it well.

What did you ever do with Alma, or is that something reserved for the 'Mature' forums?

I guess most macho males have an Alma memory tucked somewhere in their memory closets.  Cheers to you for opening your own with this piece

Alma went to school with me, Ticklefingers, a real live work of art. She was shunned by most of the girls because of her beauty. Jealousy reared it ugliness head. In retaliation she went after their boyfriends, an succeeded most of the time. I would love to know whatever became of her.

You are probably right, jjote. I know for a fact I do. Felt sorry for her, but she was far two beautiful for myself, and the rest to turn down.

Someone once said ‘Only women know women, and they all hate each other.’ A touch harsh I think but on reading your poem I see from where you’re coming from. Enjoyed.

That saying has a lot of meat to it, I believe, Cari. Men truly don't understand women much of the time. Women know this and that gives them an advantage in relationships.

Your poem makes me wonder what Alma was really like. Another great read. Enjoyed.
Thanks
