Listening to every heart

At 63

My husband will be turning 72 soon.
But right now, I am 63, He, 71.
As friends pointed out, I have been,
And will turn more, into His mother.

An only child, he is beloved still, by one.
Times children. Times grands.
Times greats. Times friends.
And they all see that life never ends.

It hasn’t always been easy, as he slipped
From military ways and design, to claim
“I’m being me, this is mine.”
As for me? Never a moment to recline.

I have to relearn not to speak so quickly;
That things will abide
By not always being a pain in the side
He wishes to show.

I must remember to not answer
Unless I turn to his face
Because of stubbornness on aids
And that I must show grace.

Yet, yet, that Germanic germ presides
Where I feel I shan’t hide
That little gem of idiotic glee
When he thinks he can/not hear me.

Sigh. At 63, I must preside
Over my blood pressure and allow the ride
To resume a more natural pace
And turn to answer in his face

“What, you asked this question yesterday;
Here’s your note, what does it say,
Yes, the list is here, just what you want,
Now get it yourself, for I am gaunt.”

He looks at me as if I were unclear,
That I dare ask him, my dear,
To do shopping, laundry, take on the load;
Heavens, no! He’s struck Gold!

Karilea, and you hide these things . . . I imagine he has his own list, but then that doesn't count for males aren't to be trusted. Eh . . . Just kinda hit me on the wrong side . . . I'm positive it is only me.

It's a testament, Yann, and Jerry, to just what goes through a poets mind when yammering on about our woes...and remembering all that was before us, and goes...

on and on and on.

"Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm sixty-four" If you party and have an open bar, I'm not doing anything that night. But if I do, I'll name it one of two. John, Paul the second. George, Ringo in a double shot.

Here's to you and here's to me and should we ever disagree, here's to me!

Mr. Martini...WELCOME to Passions. By Gosh, you would think I would have thought of that myself.

There's always a open bar [somewhere], as it is always 5 o'clock [somewhere]. But thank you for pointing out to me what I was missing for my little poem. Bless your heart.

... and that is only the beginning, dear Karilea!

Any woman can relate to your powerful words, I am sure. We have spoiled them! And forever we shall try to be graceful, not to lose patience ... but we can't avoid to feel gaunt in certain moments.

But then love shines like gold within your hearts and even when roles change (you the Mother ...) love is and remains the key.

Bless you!

Love,
Margherita

Sunshine, keep your sense of humor.I have twenty years on you and believe me all was not easy because we reared six children and his jobs kept him away often and late almost always. As you know by now a sense of humor and a love of children kept it all running  pretty smoothly. And in the end it is all worth it. Oh and add in five years of his operations and cancer treatments and my working a full time job did not help. Love to you, JO

Hello Sunshine, long time no communicate.
Loved all the angles of reflection in this one.........The truth spills out easy sometimes and it doesn't hurt nearly as bad as one might think....

63 that's nothing!
You're just a little pup yet!

Remember this line in Mark Knophler's song on the Brothers In Arms album.

"There's always Sunshine after rain!"

Must have been singing about you....

Lovely poets...as with all things, time tempers...tempers. So we adjust. Bless your eyes for reading, and your hearts for responding.

Love,

Phew, Karilea!  Your extremely effective poem makes me even happier and more grateful than normal, to be happily divorced!  I am my own boss.  My rules rule.  I have a wonderful son living in the same suburb, a few minutes away by car.  And I have 5 wonderful and very happy animals who bring me happiness by the ton every day - a dogalog, a catalogue, and 3 little kittenlogs (well, one-year old kittenlogs).  Please hug Poe and Twain from me, the cuddly little bundles!

My sister Martie, and my lovely Owl...we are abiding. One day at a time. It is a lovely mystery in the aging process. We can quickly revert back to our 40 something year old times...and then realize, why the heck are we arguing over the idiocy of our children?

Love you both, very much.
