Fate laughed in a cold chill down my back at your simple words "no hope, no cure". Fate laughed at the year the doctors grudgingly gave you Fate laughed as the dream I dreamed died in the dark Fate laughed when I cried I don't go ...don't go. Fate laughed. |

Ahhh . . . Such a sad, meaningful piece of writing, Paula. I hope this is fiction, and not reality. ~*~ When they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

Hi Miss Paula, Like JerryPat, it is also my hope that this poetry of your is fictional. My opinion is that resignation is a typical response to the concept of 'fate', and that is what the 'laughter' means to me. Sometimes when we find our feelings 'cornered', we laugh. Not because the situation or circumstance was funny, but because we resigned ourselves to the loss. Some think of it as 'destiny' or the old adage, 'it was meant to be', but I never could quite get it when I questioned fate, destiny, or the meant-to-be's with the basic 'why'? Much frustration there. I realize the sadness involved in losing a loved one. I'm certain everyone does from their own experience. If needed, there is strength in faith. Warm regards... She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast". |

Thank you both, and no, not personal experience per se. I am a geriatric nurse, so death and dying are a big part of my life. Death is an inevitable part of life...but it never gets easier to accept. |

Recently watched a couple go, and yeah, fate laughs and I wonder if I'll be able to laugh back and shoot him the fickle finger when my time comes . . . Good piece, my friend... j. |

Before you pull the trigger Mr. Beard, be sure it's a "fickle finger" you're shooting at and not a 'ticklefinger! Sound it out first, then breathe, relax, aim, pull up the slack and fire! Watch out for 'Maggie's drawers'! (What was all that about? I thought we (you) were covering single-digit hand gestures.) 88's all She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast". |

It is hard to let go on that one way ticket. My mom's slow train is heading for the station and that will be my first major loss. With her dementia weaning us from her as she goes, my hope is that I am already grieving her loss. When that final passing comes I hope that I will be able to focus on the blessing of her transition from this life to the next. ~L |

Yes fate can be cruel. It has laughed at me too, Paula. Ida |

Paula...nice to read you again.Your work both here and in real, very appreciated. Having visited my mother before her passing...it is not easy work on a day to day basis. Thank you. Maureen |
