Leaning on a thin wall rollin’ a smoke Knowing the roof falls if it goes Steppin' on out over thin ice today Showin' how much I know Took an old Nash out with a low tire Racin' into the curve Oncoming wide-eyed chicken twins Wonder who’ll be first to swerve Spun the cylinder on dad’s .38 Marrying the barrel to ear Give the trigger a yank while toasting the Czar Trusting there’s nothing to fear Reaching great heights with hand over rung I don’t need a license to fly Circus lights praise my one-handed stunts While the worried were waving good-bye Trek the steel highway up to the rise Wait for the squeak of the wheels Run like the wind to catch up with the ladder Then I’ll know how it feels School bell’s tolling for whom I'm not sure The phone says its rings are for me Another day's freedom to spend on my own Tomorrow I'll cover the fee Wash what is filthy and fold up the rest Sundays are no longer blue The clothesline is laden with sins of my past All taut, anchored and true A sign in the heavens I read as my own Believing all good works prevail While my fruit bearing efforts fell short of the task Everyone knew I would fail Views from the top now come rarely The bottom is cold crystal clear It’s only what comes as familiar These things held so close and so dear Weighted with hopes of forgiveness Is a burden not meant to be borne Philosophers’ wit notwithstanding It’s an oath I should never have sworn She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast". |

Life is a beach and then you die..er ...ah...something like that. I like to think we aren't human beings having spiritual experiences, we are spiritual beings having a human experience. Sometimes the body suits can really be a trip. You have been blessed with a sense of humor to take it all in with (or at least project it back out again)That makes you a winner in my book. ~L |

pardon me for being so dense, I've been meaning to ask about the 88's. Is that a pair of 8's like put 'em with a pair of aces and you got the dead man's hand or what? If so, what is the significance of a pair of 8's? Sorry I'm so ignorant. ~L |

"Wash what is filthy and fold up the rest Sundays are no longer blue The clothesline is laden with sins of my past All taut, anchored and true" Throughout this poem each line is the catalyst leading up to this verse, Ticklefingers, in my opinion. I can just see n old clothesline laden with the sins from my own past, allowing the bright sun to cleanse and purge. ~*~ When they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

Hi Miss Lori and JerryPat, Thank you so much for your lively replies! Today marks the day I was born. My birth certificate says that baby Ticklefingers was born 'live'. My father always questioned that. Anyway, I started to think about how I ever made it this far with no 'spots' on me. Perhaps you both and many others have rolled this question over a time or two as you sojourned up and down the proverbial 'road. A sense of humor mixed with occasional fits of mischievousness has never left me. I take punches, but rarely throw the first, so I never won a title belt. My first wife of 20 years married me because she said I was 'happy~go~lucky' (a touch of 'sultry' for you there Miss Lori ). She divorced me for the same reason. Miss Lori says: quote: This is a fundamental belief in the Mormon religion. As a piano plunker, '88's are a wish to bestow good fortune and happiness to someone. (Though the relationship between extending "88's" to someone and the piano is purely coincidental, the old wish always feels appropriate and I always use it sincerely.) JerryPat says: quote: I see your point. You and I both know that's the thing to do. I love the scent of clean, fresh 'clothes'. You all (y'all) have made me feel most welcome this time around and I want to thank you again and again for that. 88's friends She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast". |

Well Happy Birthday TF! I hope you find your day much to your liking. And if you get cake be sure to eat a piece for me! Don't forget to blow out some candles and make a wish. (Try not to violate any fire codes) My first husband and I were together 20 years and today would have been our wedding anniversary. I'm not saying which one because that would involve math and thinking back and I'm not going there. Have a good one ~L |
