within a whisper
of yesterday and now
there is an anticipation
of a dream
and words which are imbedded
deeply carved
in the heart of the poet
these words become his children
to lavish praise
and teach them where to go
and grow
and give meaning
challenging the poet
the words
as though they were the colors of his heart
and soul
bequeathing unto him
the spirit of interlocking freedom
he has done his best
and that is the reason for his smile
