Dreams drift upon a dozen skies like sailing ships on snow white foam And though they tire none ever dies, for each one knows they’re coming home Through pillars stretched across a bay that whispered of so many things The walrus drifted on his way, to speak of cabbages and kings, Of Alice and the Queen of hearts, white rabbits drinking Earl Grey tea So many ends so many starts, so many eyes that cannot see So many empty oyster shells lay scattered round the carpenter So many silent Sunday bells, just curiouser and curiouser. Dormice sleep in old top hats, their whiskers twitching nervously Afraid of smiling Cheshire cats that sit and wait so patiently, And Alice through the looking glass taps lightly on its magic pane Before her precious moments pass, she enters Wonderland again, Where hands stand still upon a clock, afraid to move to other times And nearby waits the Jabberwock, intent on acting out his rhymes, Yet there are still so many writes, so many scenes so many plays To act under life’s bright footlights, until the curtain falls on days. Imagination has no name, it flies without the need of wings It flickers like a dancing flame, and bathed in beauty softly sings, It wanders through the darkest days, concealed in velvet secrecy Yet cares not what life’s rule book says, it moulds just what it wants to be, And sitting by the fireside, where shadows paint upon the wall It knows it has no need to hide, it’s bound in dreamsong after all, White rabbit winds his watch once more, and sets off to mortality A different sun, a different shore, a place where rainbows cease to be… |
