We put the tiny house plant,
a bereavement gift for my grandfather’s passing,
in a green and beige pot.
It was a home becoming of it.
Not too fancy, not too plain.
Comfortable.
They gave me the easiest one to take care of,
they know me well, I thought.
We loved for it
like the soul of my grandfather reincarnated
at first.
Who remembers when or how it changed.
The guilt of seeing it wilting died slowly.
“Have you seen the plant?” You would say
but not water it
either.
No helping it, I threw it out on a Tuesday.
You left on Wednesday.
The green and beige pot remains
empty.

This is so smooth and beautifully blue. I love how all the pieces break apart and come full circle in your ending. Thoughtful piece ~L

Enjoyed your tightly-knit somber..

"like the soul of my grandfather reincarnated
at first."
~my first plant was obtained in similar fashion.. killer when it died.

Warm welcomes to you, fabulous first post!
be well,

Not nearly my first post.  I was posting here in highschool under Kevin in 99-2000.  Haven't written in a long time.  But the pen returns and so do I.

By the way, I went back and read my old stuff.  You guys were too kind back then. Lol.

Anywho, glad to see some old familiar screen names still kicking around.  Hope everyone is well.

Nice to see you, Kevin.  Your metaphor is very apt for your grandfather's passing.  I'm very sorry for you loss.
