Old Man’s War

It all started at a young age.
He felt he was misunderstood.
This world, the target of his rage,
He’d make them pay just like they should.

The first victim, his loving mom,
Whose attentions always fell short
Of what he needed to find calm;
Vengeance was not his last resort.

Was just the one he opted for,
And so the guillotine was freed.
His words, sharper than any sword,
Her only choice then was to bleed.

So he set out, a man full grown…
With all the preening of a teen.
Maturity not yet his own,
And now, no one left there to wean

Himself off all the selfish ploys
And attention-starved fits of grief;
He never found the keys to poise,
And even worse, those to relief.

As roamed he now the world, lost.
A man lacking recourse for peace.
Those with purpose, he would accost,
His only venue of release.

Driven by hates—by jealousies,
Denouncing both heaven and God,
Never counting the casualties,
He’d spare no passerby the rod!

As those who tried to be his friend
Found quick such hopes shot down in vain.
Oh, with no one would this man blend
Where given result was not pain.

One by one driving them to fall,
Or loudly cursing those who ran.
So very few fought back at all,
Yet still felt the wrath of this man.

Giving his soul to burgundy,
His love, the bottom of that glass.
All left behind, dimmed and blurry,
This man became his own impasse.

Reality, embraced like that,
He never saw the damage done;
When finally pausing to look at
The sad truth he could not outrun.

Where, satisfied, reaching for smile—
Finally breaking those lifelong chains,
He still don’t see, daft or denial?
His road behind’s ghastly remains.

"..He never found the keys to poise,

~I have a feeling your emotional poise is a
breeze when en-smile, equilibrium
settled- so sweetly

Heard a great youtube seminar called
"Keys to Emotional Poise: Everything
is Connected"..Smart words they poured.
(share laters)

Seen many sides of you over the years, through all trials, up & down, and
leave you with a quote. (see what I see..)

"The only thing that I know is this: I am full of wounds and still standing on my feet" (~NK)
*chains broken indeed, gorgeous

And I cannot, cannot go.."

Lori, Jer, think there are pieces of two different old men in here.  Started out writing about two, anyway... but it went into way too many pages.  Tried to trim it down to just one, but like I said, may have meshed the two a little. Thank you for your replies.

Tanya, will have to check out that seminar now, seeing how highly recommended it comes.  Love your quote too... felt it, really.  thank you, love.

Read a book not to long ago named "Old Man's War" - a military science fiction novel by John Scalzi.  Enjoy it, just as I did this piece by you.

Eeks, was unaware that was out there, Jimmy.  Will think up a new title for this maybe.  May have to check that out though, haven't read anything really good in awhile.
