Unassuming

The reflection looked up at me,
I quickly dropped the rock.
Rippled out through eternity—
The damage of the shock.

The little things no one will see,
All quickly cast aside.
Forever scattered, will haunt me,
Even through death’s reside.

The impulse telling me to squeeze,
I know I must let go.
My only wish, truly, to please
And somehow the pain slow.

I hold her close, within my heart—
Curse selfishness within.
Pray courage just to play my part,
In the face of my sin.

Love came to us, unassuming,
So many years ago.
All eyes on us, with presuming
Of things they could not know,

How could we help feel it again,
In the light of fate’s curse?
Knowing mortality of man
Is the road we traverse.

As what might not be tomorrow
Is with me here, today,
Could I turn back on her sorrow?
Could I just look away?

The passions of a younger day,
If I must, I will still.
But, by her side in every way,
Stay to the end, I will.

I think you have been very adept, Michael, in verse over the years to give the notion that, yes, indeed you would, "by her side in every way, / Stay to the end, I will."

very fine penning, when we love things are not easy for ever, we have to walk day by day, step by step and keep aware of many obstacles, i loved my reading and what follows

No sins, I see- that matter-
one day we both claim dust,
Hand-holding still, at sunset-
naught else- means quite so much..

Strong hands grasp tight, the pebble-
through reckless waves of pain,
Yet you, dry tears, a'fore they fall-
and flavor them, as storm and rain..

always loves

More than just a notion, Jer.

Thank you, Yann.  There are many things in life and love that have to be faced.  All loves will have their trials and temptations.  Already seeing some unexpected obstacles here, but we deal with them together.

Tanya,
quote:
Hand-holding still, at sunset-
naught else- means quite so much..
To the end, indeed.  You see the truth of my heart, and have touched my soul as a person.  I will share it all with you, never doubt that.

Michael,
Your poetry leaves no heart untouched. You wrench, you warm, you wring and wrought from our hearts with the ease of a master. ~L
