when men begin to get a certain age
some of us are so in tune
with the aging process
that we understand to gently
close doors
we’ll never enter again
as we walk during our daily routine
our steps are weaker
not strong and self-centered
as they were merely yesterday
we abhor reflective mirrors
and we hear sounds no
one else can hear
the sound of night falling
when it is
broad daylight
we have an insightful feel
towards nightfall

Night, is a darkened beauty, Jerry...

I'm glad she touches your appreciation as well

This is quite a soothing bit of work tonight!
take care, you

I am not too young to not have been "in tune" with this.  To not know what is like to be contented with half measures sometimes, where we know the cup will never be full for us again.  To see that shadow no one else seems to be paying attention to.  The years have been hard on me in their own way, Jer.  I felt this.

My take on this poem was that you are really getting in touch with your contentedness. And if the darkness is a place you find peace then so be it. The great thing about where you are at in your life right now is the freedom you have. If your heart desires
oatmeal and raisins at 2:00a.m. then it can have it. If you want to walk Zoe in the rain at dawn-knock yourself out. Whatever is within your limitations is within your choosing. Continue choosing the soothe my friend. ~L

Lori, you have absolutely found the right words to describe how it is to be seventy-six. Yes it is freedom exactly.
