My Scars |

My scars came early on in life, And put there by my father's wife. They were small scars for a small boy, It seemed what I liked she destroyed. As I grew older, scars increased, For the belt lash never did cease. Into manhood I was covered, Even so I played the lover. All for naught I would soon find out, Love and I had extended draughts. On into old age I made it, I faced the world like the dog; Pit. And there you were at my life's end, You smiled, we talked, and we did blend. Baby made the scars go away, Finding you was a five-star day. You have given me peace of mind, You dulled the rage and then confined. I love you, sha, I love you most, You are the best on either coast. ©May 7, 2015 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~*~ When they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

I don't usually go down that road of self-pity, and actually I didn't with this poem. It's just that today being Mother's Day and all . . . Thank you Jo. . . ~*~ When they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

Seems like we had similar childhoods, Jer. Like the twist this poem took. One never really knows what life has in store for them in the end. Michael |

Jerry! I get this one, about as much as I got the belt in youngster years, ALOT. lol. Emotion aside, ...you know I loved this, right? and a released acknowledgment to be sure kuddos man! ~d Open arms can be the most fragile in the world... |

I thought about you on Mother's day. I knew there would be "the memories" I'm so happy they no longer have the power over you they once did. Love goes a long way to heal many things. ~L |

back those days when you can't call 911 for child abuse? though now even the slightest hand touch is grounds for it.. |

I understand jjote, they have gone from bad to worse. I had a very violent mother. Wore cuts, black eyes, whip marks, etc. to school. You are correct no one had the authority to step in and stop it. Now, again like you said a slap on the butt with your hand can wind you up in jail. Thank you for reading and commenting on. ~*~ When they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

Blessed be the one who helped you erasing the scars ... this is a sad memory to carry through life, but as you say the burden can be lightened through love and understanding. Well expressed. Margherita |

Well, yeah Margherita, it is something I have been beset with most of my life. Mother's day brought it all back, but the ending has changed to one of optimism. ~*~ When they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

I ache for the boy... understand too well... and applaud the man. The scars never disappear - but too many don't recognize salvation when it comes their way, giving themselves additional undeserved punishment. Powerful, painful write!! I was in your neck of the woods last week... thought about you when I saw the signs for Nicholls - but didn't think hollering your name would do any good. LOL I enjoyed being back in the home state, though... hope you're well! |

Darn it, Ruth, That is a shame. I would have liked to have met you. Next time you plan a trip down here give me a shout and maybe we can meet, hug, shake hands and have some conversation. That would be nice. ~*~ When they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

I will try to do that! Unfortunately, one of my trips to Louisiana last week (I made two... and am still exhausted LOL) was for a funeral... we'll have to set something up when I'm not sobbing! |
