Hokie Pokie Road When I was a young boy so very long ago,I spent many a day on old Hokie Pokie Road. It was small part old worn out asphalt and large part dirt and potholes, especially near the end before it joined with the main highway, which was a country single lane going east and west. So I remember petaling my bike as fast as I could on the asphalt parts and coasting with no hands until the road changed from asphault to dirt and potholes. So brave young me was rapidly coasting with no hands and when I contacted the dirt I hit a giant pothole and ended up eating lots of Georgia dirt as I lost control and crashed; it was lots of fun mixed with plenty of pain. Around the same part of that road on the side opposite a farm I remember wild berries that we could pick by the bucketfulls after we chased off the wild bees with sticks and stones that seemed to think they had first claim to those delicious berries. Across from our home on Hokie Pokie Road their was a farm with corn and a few horses that were interesting to watch grazing lazily but we never road them because the farmer wasn't so friendly. He grew lots of corn on his farm eith peanuts growing under the corn. We would sneak into his corn patch and partake sometimes, othertimes we would dig up those peanuts, beneath the corn and our mom would boil us a treat. Other days me and my brothers would travel the other way on Hokie Pokie Road onto the main road that would take us to countless new adventures that would fill up our summers wherever our feet would take us. When we grew hungry in our travels some people had walnut trees in their spacious yards that they would kindly share with three hungry boys, others had persimmon trees to share. Upon some summer days we went down Hokie Pokie Road away from the main highway which seemed to go on forever leading us down a country road full of wild berries and old abandoned businesses. Truth is I don't really remember the name of that old road but the name I created seems to work well enough so I'll just let it go and say that me and my brothers had lots of fun enjoying the thrills of adventure and the pleasures of youth on Hokie Pokie Road.
