Dissertation So I gave my dissertation On a life spent walking dead— Shared with all the sensation Waking to an empty bed. I poured years into pages— Turned the pages, one by one. A chronicle of the ages In a world without a sun. ‘Gave my best presentation, Turning dark the somber hall; Inside feeling elation, Holding everyone in thrall. But soon felt the vexation Of being misunderstood. They hoped it would get better, But I knew it never would! It was the course of a lifetime, Wasted on a man like me. A mountain I would never climb— A reward I would not see. ‘Tried to placate this puzzled crowd, Their stares hold me impaled. The words seem cursed spoken aloud, My dissertation’s failed. All I know is this leaves me breathless. I don't always understand, but I do always feel. This, I understand. A |

When people do not want to hear, it matters not how clear the bell sounds. |
