The Many Joys of Friendship

I'm trying so hard to
be be your close friend
because in relationships
the many joys of friendship
can easily surpass
the pleasures of
physical intimacy.

Feel me, but don't grab too hard.

Reach for me but don't
dig the fingernails in.

Don't attempt to hold
me so closely.

Touch me softly,
so you can learn
the secrets of
my heart.

I'm sorry, but you shouldn't have to be trying so hard to be a close friend. It should come easily and naturally, or maybe it isn't meant to be.
