I am watching the man in the mirror- I must confess total surprise… To look at the hair growing grayer- And the weariness there in his eyes. A short time ago he was younger, A man’s man was what they all said. With the toll that years are extracting- Before long I’ll surely be dead. But death and I surely aren’t strangers- So many have gone on before… Sickness and age wait for no man- And many were lost in the war. Besides, what is life but a vapor? Here today, gone in a flash. Our bodies are merely containers- And funeral homes take out the trash. Many folk say I’m a cynic- And some even say that I’m mad; But I figure time is collecting- The toll for good times that I’ve had. So me and the man in the mirror- From toil and despair shall be free. I must confess that I am eager… At last to be ridded of me. |

I think there is a peace that calls to certain souls from the other side. Death doesn't just come to those, it has a way of dancing around them for a while first. Michael |

Ah, Death at last becomes us. Not really a sad thing unless one has many things still left undone. My only regret is I will not be there to attend the party. Young man fret not, all is as planned, best to you Jo, |

Ah death where is thy sting...so I want to start doing things I have left undone, so when this thief that comes in the night arrives, I can say with no regrets...Lord you may now dismiss your servant in peace |

A look in the mirror can be sobering. Well, it can drive you to drink too. That old face can seem more a stranger than death, because, as you write, we all know him long before he comes for us. He always displays his art that we might etch it in our memory: 'Juliet, lost to us at ten short years, safe in the arms of Jesus.' Top poem, my friend. |

True, Mirrors will tell you the truth whether you want to know it or not. Ida |
