As my mind idle times, on auto pilot home to my village of idiots, to places of preparation for confrontation with my nemesis. Intimidation. Rehearsing what to say In worst case scenarios where words don’t fail me. Lips tighten. Knuckles whiten. I imagine what frightens me. On later revisiting my thoughts, I was given to understand, the stress I put myself under was under my command; a waste of time and energy to think of it as often as I do. So to, can be said of the sound thrashing thoughts of woulda, coulda, shoulda. They slip before my eyes into my mind to hypnotize. and commence to criticize me with mere fantasy. Now, on this further pondering, my paranoia plies… If that was fantasy, then what reality does this distract me from? You know I dare not ask, the question being rhetorical. My response: hypothetically hysterical. An Idle mind is a weapon of hell. The scourge of boredom and monotony, begetting evil thoughts. LGR©1/18/15 |

Hah! You can say that again and I still wouldn't understand it. Heh.Heh Actually I think I understand it far too intensely. I have lived for years with the woulda, coulda, shoulda syndrome. Thank goodness I have a friend who helps me control that kind of thinking, but it is only at night before my friend, Mr. Cheap California Burgundy, shows his calming face. Wild poetry . . . Insightful too. ~*~ When they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

Ethel and Yann, Thank you for commenting, I appreciate the feedback. I seldom write like this (or so it seems to me) so I wasn't so confident that it was going to make sense to anyone but me. Yann, these thoughts will fade only to be replaced by others (sigh) My job, as captain of my ship, is to change the course of my thinking before I hit rough water. |

Lori we cannot really change the past and have little control of the future so it is best to let it be. Pondering on the would have or should have is much too late.It can not be changed now.best to think of pleasant things. Best to you. Jo |

Oh Lori I felt like this was written about me, I have struggled for years with social anxiety & the would have, could have, should have thoughts that constantly hold me back, I don't know how many times I have said yes to a social gathering only to back out at the last minute. thank you for sharing this xx Love is the life of the soul... |

Many thanks Traci, I believe in turning your lemons into lemonade (or hand grenades) The best you can do with stuff is share it because it might ding a bell with someone else. I know it helps me to see people being successful that share the same shortfalls as me. It is a little bit like admiring the shoes on a person who has the same limp as I do. (metaphorically speaking)~L |

For peace of mind, they say regret not the past, and focus on moving on, and que sera sera, goes the song. Dwelling on it would only bring back unwelcome moments. But the poem echoes what most of us really feel deep within.Very insightful. |

jjote, You are so right, and I agree 100%. The reason I detest housework is that in the mindless tedium I am plagued by random disquieting memories. I have found trying to focus on creating a poem during these times is helpful. (if my muse is willing to cooperate) I promise you that a number of poems never lived longer than the laundry basket and thus never made it to paper. ~L |
