He said that of her smile What is left of who she is is what she remembers She remembers him with every fiber of her being One unremarkable afternoon in the least remarkable of places I overheard him say to her… “When you smile at me, it just melts my heart” A smile, that after more than sixty years, still possesses him God blessed me to hear that tenderness between my parents I heard their love. One that has lasted longer than my lifetime. A love that melts my heart. LGR©1/18/15 |

A loving, heartfelt piece of writing about your parents, Lori. I trust both are doing well. ~*~ When they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

Beautiful. That described my father also.He really loved his wife( my mother) and catered to her all his life. So nice to have seen that type of love as it taught me what to expect and as I look at photos I still see the glint in my husband's eyes. Those eyes and his laugh is what got to me as a young girl and he never lost either of those things I did not get the catering but did not need that.I was pretty independent and kept busy all the time. jo |

Jerry, thanks for asking about my parents. They are doing well under the circumstances. Mom's days at the assisted living center are slowly drawing to a close as her needs increase. That is part of what makes that moment so touching. "The rest of the story" is that the "least remarkable place" where it happened was in the bathroom. (reminds me of a line from one of your poems)He was telling her that she would have to wait for the aids to come back to help her up. |

Jo, having been married 3 times, I had a hard time comprehending how someone would choose not to remarry. I once was blind, but now I see. |

It's truly a blessing for your parents to have this depth in their relationship of a lifetime and it's a blessing too for you to witness it. With this one you tug at my heartstrings, dear Lori! Love and hugs. Margherita |

Dear Margerita, How good to hear from you! Still chokes me up every time I tell the story. I'll be sharing that poem there (Eaglecrest) in February when I read again. I'l be devoting most of my time to love poems. |

Such undying declarations of love is so priceless and one rarely finds it existing these days of broken relationships. Good for you to treasure it.. |

Lori, I can hardly see what I am typing for the sobs. I have just read the comments of yours and others in Wanda after mine and this poem and all the comments. I really do get it, but it all gets to me, and I can't help the sobs. I have no words. Sorry. Owl |

Cry all you want! I'm not one to tell anyone not to cry, I do it at the drop of a sentimental hat. The blessings have far outweighed the problems we have encountered. I will be happy when my Dad finally gets moved over to the same facility as my Mom and they can share the same building. They will be happier too! ~L |

Sorry Everybody! I was looking at this and realized I responded to Owl and missed all you wonderful poets that took the time to read and respond to my poem. Wow. Boy is my face red! It is bad enough I haven't been doing my fair share of reading lately either. Please forgive me. If it weren't for all of you supporting my writing I wouldn't be the writer that I am today. And today this poet gets to go to Eaglecrest, where my Dad still lives, and read poetry to the residents! Thank you so much for always being here for me and giving me the confidence to continue. Bless your hearts! ~L |
