Tribute I wake to see the clock in crawl, A shadow set upon the wall. The numbers, red as demon's eyes, Working their way toward slow demise. I but sigh to greet them again, As I reach out to grab my pen... Another night I'll forfeit sleep To the recesses of the deep 'Tis but a curse wrenching my soul, That ev'ry night brings forth a scroll— Gives life 'these voices in my head... Voices of the faraway dead ...That push, that pull— that cut at me With sweet promise of liberty. ...That wrest me through this wayward plight Where all seems dark, but dark is light. A fire within a pulse drawn still. A second's pause— a foregone will. I take their torch, it guides the way— Leads me on through the lifeless day. A sinister and bleak embrace Of pestilence about the place; Drawn forth, as through fanciful whim, It but shows me I'm one of them. ...And so I write, and so I must; Pledging allegiance to the dust! And so I walk through a domain That casts this earth I dwell in shame. It reaches deep into the blind Framework of a besotted mind— Holds the truth of sought-after pain I've sung to myself in refrain. Body rejected, soul in want Of nothing so much as to haunt The plastic faces everyday I've looked to as they've looked away. The understanding never there, For to understand, one must care. Until sun sets, and sings to me These voices I've given decree. So if my muses cry at night, Within these walls painted snow-white; I know I must pick up the pen That's driven me since life began. It's there I reap my bland reward, Beyond this world of feigned accord. The grand manner in which I sing, Haughty tribute to its nothing! Michael Anderson 1/25/14 ...How many hours of night or day In those suspended pangs I lay, I could not tell; I scarcely knew If this were human breath I drew... Michael...Man oh man what a heart touching write. I could feel the pain in each word as I read this masterpiece. You really do have a gift for writting but I believe you would give it all up if your pain would stop. Thanks for sharing...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |
