I woke up at six the other morning to the sound of the tiny frogs. They are so loud and they sound like ducks. I wonder how they get such a large sound out of their tiny throats. I remember when we first came to Palm Coast it had rained heavily and I went out to the backyard to see the "ducks". I was so surprised to see they were tiny frogs and then worried how they would leave the yard when the sun came out. But of course my fears vanished as fast as the frogs did. You would think they rode down to the ground sitting upon raindrops. My granddaughter asked how they went away and I told her, "I guess if they came down upon the raindrops they took a sunbeam up". Having fun with the heavy two days of rain. jo |

I looked up the little frogs and they are called the Squirrel Tree Frog and do sound like ducks after a rain until fall. Thank you Bruce and Blues for reading and posting. Some people do not really beleive me. me.They are very very small and can stick to the window or walls. On a tree and can change color from green to grey. I have heard frogs that sound like cows and some like dogs barking. Might be mating season when they do this and these frogs do it after heavy rain. Jo |

Treefrogs The treefrogs (family Hylidae) have adhesive discs on their toes that enable them to cling to and climb among leaves and branches. These adhesive toe pads even allow them to cling to glass, and in summer you often see green tree frogs and squirrel tree frogs on the outside of windows eating insects attracted to the light. Green. This was a squirrel tree frog and comes out after heavy rain. Green Treefrog Many tree frogs can change color like a chameleon, and green treefrogs are dark olive-brown or charcoal colored when they are stressed or cold, but become bright green at other times. They can also be dull green or gray when hidden or sleeping. They are about 5.7 cm (2.2 inches) long and can be recognized by the creamy white stripe that extends down both sides of the body. Male green tree frogs typically call while perched on vegetation near water. Their call is a scratchy ‘quonk-quonk-quonk’, often heard during rainstorms.n.It sounds like a duck |

I know the young frogs can sound abnormally loud. I like the sound, but yes, it does become irritating after awhile. Enjoyed! ~*~ If they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

"I guess if they came down upon the raindrops they took a sunbeam up". You are a true fairy for your grandchild, dear Jo! How lovely this is! And thank you for the scientific contribution. I am surprised to hear how loud they can become, even like a cow ... Impressive. Enjoyed this much. Love, Margherita |

yeah, I Love The Frogs! I love their chorus after it rains, even after I water the yard we get a certain number praising the water. And in the day, in the late summer and early fall like now, the cicadas! And the mockingbirds, this time of year they have a particular "call" you hear no other time of year - only in late summer/fall - it's the real forewarner of fall to me. Damn, I miss my youth! Good piece, my friend. jimmy |

Thank you all for reading and posting a reply.I did not come back and missed your nice replies. We are still having rain.Almost every day.One or two sections of this small city have had a lot of problems. The drains and swells that were built to control run off just could not take in sixteen inches of rain all at one.Lots of damage to those areas. Cars ruined from being in too deep, some houses were damaged and some people were using kayaks to get around. More rain said to be on the way all week.So far we have had no problems in my section. But all are asked to limit washing machines and other heavy waste water discharges. Again thanks for you answers.Jim, we are like minded,Love the out doors and the creatures it brings to fore.JO |
