Lost in the Mail Once vibrant and pulsating moving quickly through the day one had to run to catch up or miss the bus that would not stop Dozens of passengers would jump aboard in original dress displayed and others eager to take in the view would opine on the colors and the forms A camaraderie with words it was of phrases felt so true with lines of hearts and minds and of stanzas old yet new These pages have not faded their color is still that blue but they have become so thin oh, so thin like onion skin You remember onion skin? for sending letters airmail to reduce the weight and cost of love or plea to distant family What of that onion skin? what of airmail letters? what of these blue pages and the passions laid upon? Though the stage is not empty and pens still hold their colored ink these pages wore so very thin when the audience walked away The dead will not return today the missing have not reported in and favorites of a decade past left nary a forwarding address. |

A bittersweet tale of days gone by...truly a fine tribute to those poets who colored these pages a little more blue. Bless their hearts and souls. |

"You remember onion skin? for sending letters airmail to reduce the weight and cost of love or plea to distant family What of that onion skin? what of airmail letters? what of these blue pages and the passions laid upon?" We need to all return... it's been a long while indeed... Thank you Sir. I needed this today. |

While it is a great joy to read you today, the emotions you convey are quite dense with melancholy. Everything changes as you say so well and pertinently, we have the choice though to make the best of what we have now. Thank you for the pleasure to find you here. Margherita |

You have said what I have been thinking, Krawdad. So many wonderful writers are no longer with us and I do miss them. So glad you are still here. Ida |

At least those onion skins usually did not have such a pungent odor of their namesakes. Enjoyed the poem; noticed you broke the rhyme scheme about the middle...good wake up call to one reading word upon word, rather than for meaning. It certainly conjures memories of movies where "letters" were the crux of the plot. Good nostalgia. Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |
