I sat down to write a sonnet of hope That the violence in this old world would end, For we are sliding down slippery slopes, A vicious Holy War we're involved in. There are good people in this world I know, And they try, but usually are not heard, At any rate they're outnumbered by foes, Who give no quarter and we seem absurd Skirmishes everywhere, can't catch my breath, Now Russia is trying to start a war, Once they tried to starve the Ukraine to death,* Sanctions talk, can't they see what we're in for? I dread the world for children born today, Freedom will not be theirs; they've been betrayed. *http://www.historyplace.com/worldhistory/genocide/stalin.htm ~*~ Tell the truth, but tell it slant.--Emily Dickimsom ~*~ |

I believe you are right, we are all going to H. E.Double Hockey Sticks in a hand basket. I also believe we have been doing that since the beginning of dirt...A bunch of ignorant inhabitants of a lovely planet we are. Lori |

This exemplifies why I absolutely hate watching the news today. The grief of it all can be utterly overwhelming. You did well to grasp what you could in this sonnet, for me, I would be spitting out an endless litany of profanities and angst. I feel you on this one. Michael |

Upon reading your poem, I can only hope that those in power will make wise choice6,,;s, but it doesn't look like it so far. Miscellanea |

Oh, I agree Michael, that if you had written this poem, you would be . . . quote: and you would have done it with your usual grace and deep reflection. I appreciate your comments. ~*~ Tell the truth, but tell it slant.--Emily Dickimsom ~*~ |

Thank you, Miscellanea, and like you I don't believe the people in power are capable of positive decisions. ~*~ Tell the truth, but tell it slant.--Emily Dickimsom ~*~ |

Well written, Jerry. Your last two lines are prophetic. But, I ask you to consider: how would the USA react if their naval bases were threatened on their doorstep? If Americans living in Mexico were compromised by a Russian-led riot that usurped a democratically elected government? The downing of the Malaysian aircraft was a sin, but we need to understand just why it happened. It isn't all to be laid at Putin's door. The West, and particularly the EU, have to look in the mirror. [This message has been edited by Redstart (07-28-2014 08:13 AM).] |

Redstart, it seems to me that Russia is still the evil nation, with America not far behind. I also believe that we spend way too much time "analyzing" situations, which give the perpetrators time to get there "story" to the news media and therefore, with lies and coverups, they succeed in stalling until unfortunately, the world being what it is, finds another tragedy to deal with . . . Putin . . . The bare-chested warrior/spy of the KBG . . . ~*~ Tell the truth, but tell it slant.--Emily Dickimsom ~*~ |
