Uploaded with ImageShack.us this beat down dirt road knows where I am going better than I do myself if I turn around and go back, things will not be as they were when I left I've discovered that this deserted road I'm on goes straight ahead, with no exit, as the song has said you can check in, but you can never leave; I try to walk off the road, but the road follows me, my steps are powerless to leave so I forge ahead, each step taking me from childhood into manhood and still the road never changes scenery it is as though things stay the same throughout my life although I am getting older and things should change instead they seem to mock me as I wander and wonder but I have noticed one thing the face I put forth into the world somehow resembles all the faces I've passed by can it possibly be so, that I am who I am unto myself ©April 16, 2012 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Great question to ask, JP... which would then inspire more questions and good poetry. Enjoyed your poem, Ms. E |

I think most definitely you am who you am. Forget those other faces and keep on rollin rollin rollin, keep them dogies rollin. I love how you snuck in some of the Hotel California philosophy. They interviewed Don Henley on NBC one night and he said the song is about the oppulence and addition of the Hollywood scene in california and nothing to do with ghosts or spirits. Ambiguity can go a long way can't it? Great write Jerry and I've been on that road. Eric true love never looks after it's own interests |

Appreciate your comments, Ms. E. Yeah, we tend to question ourselves unmercifully at times, don't we? <><><><> Henley can say what he wants to say, Eric, I have my own image of the song (Think Stephen King) and he will never change it. Besides, I bet they were thinking spirit world when they wrote and sung it. Thank you for your kind words, buddy. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

No, I dreamed of warm dirt roads under bare feet and hay trails. A |

Yep, that is a comforting thought. I have help in the hay-bailing process so much when I was growing up that even when I'm around hay these days I nearly become sick. Har, stick, sweaty, icky work hay bailing. Of course these days the roll the hay, they don't bail it. I'm with you on the warm dirt road though. Thanks Alison. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

quote: No, indeed. And it is with mixed feelings that we perceive the various phases of our lives. I love your take on the "road forward". As others said, this is a very well written, profound and thought provoking write, Jerry. A baby's face fills us with wonder and awe, for its confident, flawless beauty, but equal wonderment is to be felt when looking into an old man's or woman's face, which is the sum of his/her phases of life and experiences and there is peace and deep dignity in the mature aspect of their beauty. Especially when they know who they are ... as you know. Margherita |

Oh, you do know how to make a comment special, Margherita , and I thank you for every word. Being old can be special, and I am finding out about that specialness daily. I am more at peace with myself now that at any time in my life. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |
