sometimes at night if the moon is bright and . . . after I've poured the first of two glasses of vino I step outside to drink alone, leaving Zoe my mutt inside much to her dismay but sometimes I need to be alone to toast the moon and turning slightly to my right nod at my moon shadow so, okay with the moon and my shadow with me I'll admit I'm not alone still . . . the moon doesn't return my toast and . . . my shadow merely mimics me as I sip the wine nothing special about this moment so why does it feel special sometimes I toast half-forgotten childhood friends sometimes no I stand there for thirty minutes or more just me, the moon and my shadow before returning to The Hovel Zoe pouts about thirty seconds before jumping into my lap and stares at the wine glass I nod dip a finger into it she licks the burgundy off do it again, and again five times I think she's an alcoholic maybe so at least I don't have to drink alone ©February 25, 2012 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

So very beautiful and intense, dear Jerry. I think when you stand outside under the moon and all the rest "behind" you, even your shadow, it feels like standing at the door of Universe and so you feel part of the Whole and that is very special. And then you share this intense moment with Zoe in such a tender way. She knows and you know the gift of togetherness. Wonderful emotions. Margherita ![]() |

You are so right, Margherita, it is an awesome moment you spoke of, and of course, Zoe and I are a perfect match. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

And I'll bet you can't help but wonder if she is looking at the moon too, eh, my friend? Lori ![]() |

Ah, she is looking at that moon. Smart gal, my Zoe. Thanks, Lori. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

You know, the bleakest points of my life were spent with my dog, Gizmo, (named after the gremlin for the white stripe down his nose, and the pointy ears). As much as I whined about being "alone" in those days, it wasn't until Gizmo was taken from me that I realized I never was alone at all. The unconditional love and forgiveness that dog lavished upon me, once realized, was all that got me through his death and truly being alone. You're never alone Jer... I get the feeling Zoe sticks closer to you in spirit (when you're away) and mimics you more closely when your not than that ever untrustworthy shadow would even dare to. ![]() Michael |

Thanks, Michael, I'm sorry to hear about Gizmo. I had an old dog I had to put down two years ago, and immediately went looking for a mutt to call my own. I love mutts, not taking anything away from the pedigreed, but mutts are heartier, less likely to be sick and all the way around better doge, in my opinion, than the incestuous pedigrees. Thank you again. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |
