A bit of whimsy would I spin, P’raps, a trivial bit of mirth. To spark a smile, mayhap a grin- E’en though I be of common birth. For moneyed lands no scholars make- Nor yet a mind, much lauded schools. You cannot teach a pig to fly, Nor impart wisdom to a fool. If customs bind the thoughts of man- And channel all his hopes and dreams, Then he’s as blind as any bat- For what is ever as it seems? No matter how the package looks- The contents are what measure worth… Don’t judge the covers of the books, Nor men by accident of birth. So think! My lad. Let your thoughts soar- Investigate! While you’ve still time. And if, when you’ve done all of these- There’s time; compose a bit of rhyme. |
