Duck and cover Until it was over The mushroom dying Before you would Mosquitoes On Broadway Avenue For all the murderous fog It was us versus them Though few of us understood Long frightened lines For polio shots The occasional Funeral for someone you didn’t know Though your parents did That and other nondescript things Were what the Fifties were Childhood was more frightening then And now here we are About to go And how are you This side of then Too young to remember Or think of growing old . |
