PURPLE HEART

All soldiers who bravely serve
Should get the respect they deserve
For fighting wars in foreign lands
The American flag and for which it stands

The sacrifices that they gave
For freedoms rights to be saved
The enemy's actions came at a cost
Many a brave soldier has been lost

For the wounded soldiers that survive
Thank the Lord that they're alive
Wear their scars as medals proud
Praise America good and loud

Vietnam, my dad paid that cost
Bombed, concussion and hearing lost
The price he paid was his ears
It's been now more than forty years

The medical tent was bombed and burned
All records lost, was what he learned
And all witnesses gone
No medal for which he belonged

I appealed to the military and the VA
To let my dad have his day
He has served and suffered his part
He deserves a Purple Heart

I hope that your dad gets what he has earned, Kat. There are a few here in the blue room who think patriotism is wrong-headed thinking. I applaud your dad and those who came before him and those who are fighting now. Without their sacrifice America, as bad as it is today, would be a whole 'nother country.

Thanks Jerry! My dad will turn 80 yrs old in May and I'm planning a big birthday party at our local VFW. I've submitted all the paper work and hopefully will get his Purple Heart medal in time for is birthday. He has no idea so I hope it all works out and he gets a big surprise.

Blessings to your dad for his service, and to you for being such a caring child.

Kat...The Purple Heart would be but a small token of the appreciation America owes him.
I sure hope he gets it and if you are able to take some pictures of him recieving it please post them here so all of us that care can share his happiness...Paul

Thanks everyone for your kind comments and support for my dad. I will post pics but will be a couple of months before I have his party, hopfully with a medal.
