. The sun Glowers down On a wide Concrete bridge For a country road Somewhere outside Gary Indiana It is summer Hot and still There are mosquitoes Bugs without names Whose piercing whines Tear at the sultry air The weeds smell bad But boys will be boys One is young for adventuring Once and then no more And so they trek In sweat through heat In search of the source Of that mythical Nile— A row of frogs In shallow water . |

John I felt and saw the heat rising off the concrete bridge, and felt great trial and tribulations... very nicely done. |

This was me at nine years old, I remember those smells, the heat, the frogs.. only it was south eastern Pennsylvania, but the state doesn't matter..because where this poem takes me is universal.
