A Summer Day I would like a summer day Its heat, sweet sweat and salt To visit us in our winter years To blossom forth the scent of youth Again. In this writing it is easy to view The wrinkled adult of my youth By hands, time unforgiving, which gave away Years of care, living, trust, kindness And now just look their age. This is when one prays for arthritis And other itises and degrees of Inabilities to please, not yet Take one’s hands, or mind, not just Yet. Please, God. This is the time when minds stray To their memories, their accomplished minds, Their very essence For remembering – which is, of course, The key. I would like a summer day In the middle of my December When flowers wrest my breath away, when My grand and great moments shine, smile ‘round me, And I blossom again. KRJ 3-4-12 |

"The key."--Funny you have those two words in this poem. Katrina just found a whole slew of keys, boy is she going to have fun trying to find what locks they all go to. About summer in winter. Actually down here in the swamp we've pretty much had it all winter. This is the mildest winter I can ever recall. I hear you on the other things too, Karilea. The wrinkles. Things that used to work that don't anymore except with the wonder drugs. You touched on a subject a lot of people will be able to relate. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

"In this writing it is easy to view The wrinkled adult of my youth" Ahh, dear friend, this is a powerful statement. You admit the wrinkles, but know That adults that have advanced in age Are simply wrinkled children. I see in this poem, one who understands that, But still struggles with implications. My feelings are that indeed there is a division, But no seperation of body, and spark (spirit/soul) at any age..the key is to have faith in the spark..... "This is the time when minds stray To their memories, their accomplished minds, Their very essence For remembering – which is, of course, The key." You have the "key" "I would like a summer day In the middle of my December When flowers wrest my breath away, when My grand and great moments shine, smile ‘round me, And I blossom again." This poem is a reopened blossom, Honoring your "grand, and great moments". Like a Helleborus that shows beautiful colors That has opened in your mid-winter. "It is difficult to get the news from poems yet men die miserably every day for lack of what is found there" (William Carlos Williams) [This message has been edited by ice (03-06-2012 10:15 AM).] |

Ah, dear lady... I understand entirely too much of this... and you've written it so well. *S* But we are winter's children... and will find our warmth even without summer's sweat. *S* |

"I would like a summer day In the middle of my December When flowers wrest my breath away, when My grand and great moments shine, smile ‘round me, And I blossom again." Wow... You strum heart strings and sing a beautiful song here, Sunshine. Warmly written for warmer days ahead. JL Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |

I would like a summer day Its heat, sweet sweat and salt To visit us in our winter years To blossom forth the scent of youth Again. How interesting, for they are always there. Just lay back in the field, looking at the changing shapes of clouds, until your eye lid closes and memories swirl til you are as you see yourself again, for that is what you are, not the one in the mirror, but in the mirror of life where all is as was. An excellent poem in all ways [This message has been edited by Strummer (03-16-2012 10:25 PM).] |

Oh yes, me too. You said this so well, and I've thought it often, but never in just this way. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

We have had just the sort of bright sunny weather in the south of England today that dispels all thoughts of "other itises". Great poem, loved the final verse - a very uplifting ending! |

How nicely you have put this dear Sunshine. I too would like to have that summer day in the midst of my Decembers but thank you dear Lord for letting me see my Decembers and the privilige of enjoying the summer days of those close to me. Great writing. I enjoyed. Love, Joyce |

Me to, I'd like the same summer day. Ain't it the truth? Well done Karilea, I see you're still as proficient at expression as ever. Wait til I get my legs working well and I'll come over there and give ya a hug! Not yet, please God.....smile.... Eric true love never looks after it's own interests |
