Perhaps it is time to initiate a brand new holiday on that basis?
It would be a wonder if we could be so "non-partisan" as that.
Nice thought, though.

Perhaps we could have such a festival called Mandela. I like that too.
I am not Christian, nor adhere to any mainstream religion, which is not to say I am not spiritual. I am. I will celebrate any festival that promotes peace, love and hope, with anyone. And since today is Christmas Day my little poetic message serves its purpose, as it will every day. You know, I like the non denominational idea as well. And I think Mandela would be a great start. Hey, instead of the word "month" we could have festival. The festival of January, and so on. A year long series of festivals celebrating the good, the hopes, the best we have.

Agree with your sentiment and hope it comes true, but agree with Rex Allen also... don't have a lot of faith in it's happening any time soon.

Since the Winter Solstice appears to be the oldest evidentiary human celebration, why not start there, Christians and everybody else seems to have adopted it as their own.
Back to the basics.
And then pick up the other solar celebs., Summer Solstice and the Spring & Fall Equinoxes.
