We are deep into the Silly Season when caves of dream merchants once again are almost spinning in a whirl, all awash in pricey glitter naught but empty fluff in sight, like Congress packing promises for home; so it's coming on Christmas or so Joni used to sing way back when she was just a bright eyed slip of girl Tin Angel waitress full of her own empty promise of delight. Can we still say that? Or is this another thing banned beyond meaning, thought crime that needs cleaning, a gender diminutive and two "C" words that could bring potential images of infamy, maybe light a neural synapse maybe even two. Wipe out all errant thought ! We ought to have grown up more than this by now, don't you think? Sorry, forgot we're not supposed to think for ourselves; I better watch the lamestream News as they feed me polling tested clues so I'll know what I should choose to hold the views I should hold, accepted, comfortably dissected already pre-digested snooze, ‘cause gods forbid I might come upon an idea on my own, based only upon honest information. Oh no, there's one of those words again when will these traps of treachery end? Perhaps oh lord, perhaps after I am glutted by the Hollow Days. ©2007, 2010, 2013 by icebox |

And silly me keeps thinking it has to change . . . any day now. Oh, wait . . . is that a brick wall ahead? |

My hope for our children is that they will always ask difficult questions and not be satisfied with the answers they are given. I like this poem very much thank you and Merry Christmas Is this heaven? |

Though I love the lights, candles and crèches at Christmas time, all the glitterings in the malls and shops are certainly not there to induce us to find the true spirit of Christmas, they are just decoys to buy buy buy ... There are too many poor people in the world who can't enjoy the necessary, let alone the special treats that are proposed for celebration. When Christmas induces us to think of them and to be generous with them, then we come closer to the message of Jesus "Love your neighbor as much as you love yourself!". Your very insightful poem stirred these thoughts, dear Charlie. And the word you used "glutted" sums up the whole situation. May we awaken to Love and may our children know the true meaning of Christmas and not link it simply to an abundance of glittering gifts. Thank you for this. Love and peace. Margherita ![]() |

and I thought it was just me, or aging, as I voice my complaint (opinions) of what goes on in this world today.... Merry Christmas, Charlie M |

Thank you for this poem, Charlie. I am so weary of things we cannot say, or things we cannot even think. "Ought to have grown up more than this by now?" Why repeat the same old mistakes that history has warned us about. I sincerely believe idiots are born for the express purpose to ignore history and continue to make the same tired old mistakes. ~*~ Mercedes Benz: A mechanical device that increases sexual arousal in women. ~*~ |

So right on, Charly! What is important is the glitter of the eyes when admiring the soul, and not the glitter in the prize of Christmas gifts. Thank you for this poem! E ![]() |
