The Fallen

I watch the angels fly on by,
Looking to heaven with a sigh...
And wonder, if I could reach one,
Would make shift wings melt in the sun?

...Or with a lie spun overhead,
Will they just keep my dreams well fed?
...Or with a sad and lonely call
Will, one by one, each and all fall?

I live to love, but hate to live
With nothing at all left to give.
For love's the gate to misery,
And once through , you're never set free.

And so they live, and so they die
Marked demons, falling through the sky.
Unseen by naked, mortal eye
Until they land with estranged cry...

Reach out, only to feel it burn.
Emptiness reaching all in turn,
Till they but shut their eyes to dream
Of life before they learned to scream.

And I can't warn them, silenced here
With Passions I've watched disappear.
Yet still I hope... Yes still I long
One day, again, to share my song.

An interesting and thoughtful poem, Michael!

But, I think, this:
"For love's the gate to misery,
And once through , you're never set free."
is not true )
Love is real freedom, it makes people fearless, it warms their hearts.
All misery is from doubts, to be honest, isn't it?
