As the shrinking daylight wanes A sullen sky, the darkness claims And with my thoughts, I sit and brood Reflect upon my darkening mood It's fall, fall upon me Darkness is all I see As bright and gold turn to brown The last leaf joins the ground A chill invades the air As the trees are laid to bare Skeletal limbs reach up high To scratch upon a gloomy sky The earth has gone to gray As the sun, fades away Life is sucked from the land As Autumn makes one last stand |

Achingly sad, Kitty-cat, but very beautiful - but a promise I KNOW I can keep is that after Winter, Spring WILL come again! Smiles. Living in South Africa, where there is little or no distinction between Spring and Summer or between Autumn and Winter (except for a fair change in temperature), especially in Durban, where I live, I love poems about places that have 4 distinct seasons. I especially love poems about Autumn and Winter, because by your standards, we almost have Summer all year round, and whilst I love it, I know it, but Autumn and Winter for me belongs to the magical world of picture books and poetry. Thank you for sharing this gem. Owl ^_^ (0,0) ( ) --,,-- |

Thanks Diana for your nice reply. I think this time of year is depressing but when winter comes it will make everything beautiful in sparkling white. I love the changing seasons just not this in-between time. I love your Owl icon. Kat >^..^< |

Kitty-cat, you may not like the in-between time, but you certainly created beauty out of it. Perhaps that is the point of it? I love my Owl icon, too, lol. Now, I wonnnnnnnnder who taught me how to create it? Smiles. Owl ^_^ (0,0) ( ) --,,-- |

Love this poem! You caught the changes and express autumn atmosphere very well, although for me this season isn't just grey. I see it more like this: http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/8359/e66v.jpg |

You pretty much told it like it is, Kat,, but I'm enjoying the cool and dreading the COLD! to come. Very well constructed poem. ~*~ Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes. ~*~ |

I like all the changes in the weather ... always have. I guess Fall is probably my favorite overall, though Spring because creation is re-asserting itself, runs a tight 2nd. Summer and winter --- tie for 3rd depending on how hot or cold. Enjoyed this, my friend...well written. j. |

Sometimes we perceive fall's characteristics just like this, though we know that sleep, also Nature's sleep, always brings rebirth and healing and renewal. You said it well, dear Karen. Margherita "Love is the One who masters all things; |

katahdin - It's that time of the season, whether we like it or not. I've gathered up berries, nuts and warm woolens and now I'm ready to hibernate 'til spring. Thanks for the wonderful poetic reminder Kat. I'll indeed remember it upon reawakening. Enjoyed. Namyh |
