The Promise of your Smile I might no more know the true nature of Love than the fair moon may fathom the sea. Is it strong and certain like ancient mighty oaks and vast and ageless as the stars that figure-dance through infinite heavens or the most fragile and inconsequential of things, like the first blossoms of Spring, the sheen of Summer morning dew on wildflowers, or the last flaming leaf that falls to the Autumn winds. I know only that I would walk a thousand miles of Winter for just the promise of your smile. --- b. e. adams (10/16/2013) |

Loved the dramatic ending of this one, Bruce. ~*~ Your past is just a story. Once you realize this, it has no power over you. ~*~ |

I liked the ending too, but why do i think this poem was almost written backwards? Like you started with the ending always in mind and you built up to the ending slowly? But that is perhaps the wrong way to look at it...the best way is to say it is just part of the writers nature and no amount of years or reason can ever change a hopeless romantic...yes i like the second reason better...forget the first reason...oh and btw...thank you for the poem and for sharing it it with us.. I hear the music of Nature and breathe her perfumed breath in this, Bruce. Owl |

most of my poems are written in virtually a 'stream of consciousness' mode. I don't typically have anything at all in mind in advance. I just succumb to a 'need to write' (particularly in this season of the year). I really have never quite known how or why I write ... although the cliche "I write therefore I am" seems to rather fit ... |
