I have a target dead center of my chest
makes it easy
to disarm me with a fifty-gun panic attack
I've no place to run to
even if I did
the evil monster
makes running absofrickinlutely out of the question
keeps me from the use of my legs
all I can do
is stumble to a chair
hold onto to the back of it
as I try to stave off
what is already there
dark comes to enshroud me
as the panic attack
stares me in the face
taking
complete control
I feel like
I'm standing on the edge of the world
no where to run
there is no where to hide
gotcha
it screams inside my head
I would say, yes, yes, you have me
please let me go
I try to take a deep breath
they say that always helps
but how can I
when there is no air for me to inhale
small little short gasps
not nearly enough
what can I do
fear has me in its diabolical grip
I'm frozen to the spot
my neck is constricted
my lungs collapsed
making it impossible even to scream
out all the fear in the form of a sob
to banish the pain
which has taken all-embracing domination over me
it grips my heart
in a desperation choke-hold
standing here still gripping the back of the chair
can't call for help
can't cry for myself
all I can do is try, try, TRY
to breathe
knowing that this time
I will surely curse God and die

I don't have them as often as I used to, thank goodness. But they still hang around, and without a moments notice envelop me. Thank you for your comments.

Your description here is quite frightening, Jerry. You write with such vividness that the mere reading brings shortness of breath. Sorry to hear that this situation is real for you. May healing occur!

Appreciate your show of concern, Margherita. They come further apart than they used to, but they still come.

This sounds terrifying, Jerry. I have had a panic attack so I understand where you're coming from.
