A CITIZEN’S PRAYER FOR MADIBA
3 July 2013

Dear God
please accept these humble tears
in supplication for our beloved Madiba
who we share with all the world.

What statesman
throughout the history
of mankind
has ever held
not only
such respect,
such gratitude,
such honour,
but
so
very
especially
such raw,
unmitigated
and unconditional
love
of everyone
who has ever
heard of him
from those closest
to him
to everyone
in his own country
from
every
single
political party,
his own
and all
the opposition parties,
to those
in the furthest
corners
of the globe.

Dear God,
despite
our need
to keep him
with us
forever
as the living legend
he is,
whatever is best
for him,
please do.

Signed
in tears,
a citizen
of
South Africa.

Thank you, Bruce and EmmaRose, for your lovely replies.  Just in case you weren't aware of this, Madiba, is an affectionate nickname that South Africa (and other parts of the world) have for Nelson Mandela.

Oh, wow, Galina, yes on the 18th!  I am so impressed that you heard that so far away in Russia!

They said about it on our TV,
and even showed as people sung "Happy Birthday Madiba!"
He is a very well known person, respected and admirable. I've heard his name at school first time.

I am so glad that his birthday was on TV in Russia, Galina.  Many presidents are revered, many mocked, many hated, many feared, but few are loved, as is our Madiba, especially not all over the world, and especially not after there have been 2 presidents after him!
