I'm getting old wrinkled and crazy can't do anything about the getting old and wrinkled but I'm trying very, very hard to stay sane 'course some of my closest friends are crazy maybe it isn't so bad after all still, old age is a minefield of things you want to do but can't your physical body has left you replaced by one you'd rather not look at or deal with but you have no choice can't do much about that problem but you can ward off mental ineptitude that's my thing keeping the mind busy is a must absofrickinlutely I will stave off that nameless dark trying to enshroud me fight the dying brain cells never hold up the white flag never give up and just sit by the window and stare out and lose myself to the futility of it all I've life left to live and I'll live it until I cannot comme ci, comme ça ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ [This message has been edited by JerryPat2 (07-01-2013 11:47 AM).] |

That's it, Jerry. Never give up. I guess none of us ever will although there are times when we're tempted. |

Oh darn! I thought going crazy was one of the perks of growing old...that way the reality of the situation didn't bother you you so much. Guess I better come up with a new game plan. Ha! Lori |

I think I'll stave off "real crazy" until about 85. That way, I can take full advantage of it, and they won't be able to say "oh, she's always been that way." |

my father had alzheimers..such a sin, when the mind goes like that. I wish you years of the same wit you display here every day with your poetry. |

Oh yea, Emma, Alzheimer's is a dreadful hateful disease. It is a fear of the older generation I find myself in. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

EmmaRose, my mother has it too, so I figure it is just a matter of time for me (her mother and sister had too) I agree 100% with your response to JP! Lori |

I'm not afraid of losing my mind in my old age (I'm crazy enough right now ) But I wouldn't like to lose my memory. |

Lori, I know you worry about your mother and her condition from the poems you have written about her. I hope Emma's words come true for me also. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Yeah, that's the problem, Gale, you do lose your memory when you develop Alzheimer's. That and you don't recognize people you have known all your life. Thank you, I appreciate your comments. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

You are so right, Jerry. When the mind is all we have left (maybe) we have to make good use of it. Ida |

I've always been crazy; old and wrinkled has been just a gift of age. Great poem! |

not easy to find someone sane enough to class someone else as crazy. And wrinkles are the crazy paving on the path of life. great poem Michael |

Ah! JP, you are right on! I hope a cure is found to prevent Alzheimer's. We all have so much life to live... we MUST live it! Ms. E |

There is proof that constant mental activity, just like writing and reading and solving some logical problems, keeps the dark monster at distance ... one can only hope indeed that a cure will be found quickly, because there is nothing more sad than a beloved one that doesn't recognize you anymore ... Who cares indeed about wrinkles, that's the least of the problems. That slowing down in all the things we do etc. etc. is hard to cope with. What can I say, dear Jerry, I can relate to your perspicacious write. ps I recently bought a t-shirt with the words "Don't give up!" ... and I mean it. Margherita |
