Dinner for two? He stands there, clutching the carrier close to his chest The rain incessant dripping down his neck A dinner he promised, a dinner for two But now peaking into the bag, not so sure I mean, he never asked, what did she like So many vegetarians these days, times have changed Peaking into the bag, he saw the steaks, blood red And a nice rioja, did she drink, perhaps not, perhaps so Maybe a chicken would have suited, a bit of breast Don’t go there he thought, his mind now racing Why oh why did he ask, not the usual thing But those lips, the eyes, the legs, the breasts, oh stop Oh stop he shouted, the taxi nearly running past Just time, to get home, to cook, to change Ah well no turning back now, no turning back. He turned his key in the lock, and sighed at the sound of the clock She stands there, clutching the carrier close to her breast The rain incessant, drumming on her large pink umbrella A dinner he’d promised, a dinner for two But now reflecting in the shop window, not so sure I mean, she never said, but then he never asked Calories this and calories that, it had taken so long And how she got giddy on one sip of wine Oh how she loved steak and a nice glass of red I mean he could be veggie and all that implied Don’t go there she thought, her mind now racing Why did she say yes, it was not her usual thing But that shy little smile, and the glint in the eyes Oh stop she shouted, as the taxi ran by Just time to get home, to bathe and to change Perhaps she should call, and cancel the date She turned her key in the lock, then smiled, at the sound of the clock |
