How is it that I'm past my prime When I never had one? I would have sworn I had more time, But now find that I'm done! There's no expiration date Stamped upon my forehead - But having "washed up" as my fate? I would rather be dead! No more passion in my future; Only aches will I know. Commiseration can't suture My poor bleeding ego! It isn't that I can argue - I limp, I moan in pain, But there is so much I would do Given the chance again. If youth has not yet passed you by And more's left than stover Know that someday you too will cry: I want a do-over! |

Ruth, I think you are still young enough and lovely enough to have a beautiful prime yet. Smiles. Owl |

LOL, loved the ending Ruth! I'll take the do-over please, but only if they let me have the wisdom I got through the first round, lol. Loved this. Best wishes, /Kit |

I love this poem... an d "Age Whine" as apposed to "Aged Wine" is truly classic. I could join you in the whining dept... You could probably tally up my effort as a bottle of vintage rust or something close to that. Enjoyed... And can relate. Michael |

"How is it that I'm past my prime When I never had one? I would have sworn I had more time, But now find that I'm done!" You have as much time as you make for yourself and for anyone else you wish to include. Enjoyed the read, Ruth. A heart squeezer. Bless you. JL Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |

Enjoyed this my friend! I don't think I want a do-over, other than I'm not near ready to go, because I'm not sure I want to give up the memories I have (good, bad or indifferent). I mean, in a do-over who's to say it would be better, worse or much the same. In a do-over, would I have the wife I do, or would another slip into her place? No option there as far as I'm concerned. Me, I'll just take a Do Longer with maybe a do-over Body! Good topic, my friend.... j. |

Enjoyed this, Ruth. Not sure I'd want to do it all over again because mistakes seem to be the name of the game. I think I've made enough of those in my time. |

I love how you can inject humor and a smile into something that is usually seen as fearful or bad; it puts it in it's place and makes it not as horrible as all that. |

This effective 'write' about 'sums it all up' for me ... especially when I meet that 'stranger in the mirror' each morning and contemplate an alleged 'life' come to nothing. |

It is hard for me to relate to this poem, but I like it anyway.....:-) ...the problem of advancing age is everywhere, but I never grew up...so I don't know what it is like? I am one of the lost boys, and at first I thought it was a problem, but have found out that it is not. I like the way you express yourself though..:} |

Dear Ruth, sometimes the beauty of youth enters our minds and we become aware of the difference and for a moment we give in to such sobering thoughts - you express them so very well!. But is there actually anything more beautiful than a "real" face that reflects the events of life? And eyes, embedded in wrinkles, that show pure unadulterated love for life and its beauty, despite the stony paths that we happen to experience? After the whining, let's go and enjoy a dancing afternoon and a whole new world of possibilities opens ... Margherita |

Owl: Thank you reading... and more, for seeing me through loving eyes! *S* bel1e: I'm not sure I'd take the do-overs even if they were available... cause I'm not sure I got smarter as I got older. LOL Thank you!! Kit: LOL... I suspect my love life would still be non-existent... but less aches in the joints would sure be nice! *G* Thank you!! Sunshine: My get up and go got up and went while I wasn't looking... and didn't leave even a breadcrumb trail! LOL Thank you!! Jerry: I'm happy for you!! *S* May each year get better! Thank you! Emma: LOL Once arthritis arrives, I assure you that isn't so. LOL But thank you!!! Michael: Thank you for liking... and for enjoying my play on words! LOL I fear I'm of the twist cap vintage... rapidly turning to vinegar! *G* And your vintage rust pours poetic diamonds! *G* JL: Wishing to include doesn't mean much when it would take hog-tying to do so! LOL Thank you so much... I'm glad you enjoyed!! jwesley: A very good friend of mine used to say that if he'd known he was going to live so long, he would have taken better care of himself... so I like your solution a lot! *S* Thank you!! Honeybunch: You and me both! LOL I swear I've made my share... and several hundred other's mistakes as well! *S* Thank you! Nicole: It's still frightful... believe me! My fear-shakes just don't show well on the screen. LOL Thank you!! Alison: I love you... you know that, right? LOL And you're right... for better or worse, this is me. *S* Thank you!!! Lee: That missing is mutual... and I hope you're right! *S* Thank you so very much!! tracie: You promise? LOL You wouldn't kid a kidder... right? *G* Thank you!! DS: What a beautiful response!!! Thank you so much!! jwesley: LOL... I wonder if everyone realizes they're just encouraging the whining? LOL Thank you!!! Ida: We've got a deal... thank you! *S* ebonygirl: Yee-HA!!! Now THAT's talking!!! LOL Thank you so much!!! katahdin: Thank you so very much! secondhanddreampoet: That's when we have to remind ourselves that "less than we'd wanted" is still something... and get through another day. *S* Thank you!!! Lori: It's hard to escape feeling this way at some point... but I try not to stay there. Thank you!! ice: Growing up is highly overrated... you made the right choice! *S* Thank you!! Margherita: Whine is over... temporarily, at least. *S* I don't dance well... but I can sway to the music of breeze through trees... will that do? *S* Thank you so much! |

Ron: Aging is not for the faint of heart, is it? LOL It's one thing to know such pains exist - it's still an unpleasant surprise when they become yours. LOL Thank you so much - you really had to dig to resurrect this! JamesMichael: All too often, it feels like that ball rolled over us! LOL Thank you so much! |

Ah, poor Ruth, I see the chance! If only you will never glance In the mirror mounted in the hall, I might still get you to fall For my lines and think that you Are lucky to succumb for a few Minutes, hours (all at night) Of wrestling in the candle light To save your virtue, and then lose And wonder if I then might choose To stay around and not publicly brag That I am better than ol' Toerag! Hugs, Ruth |

My weekend's start? Blessedly right! For that ole sailor is a sight That's medicine to this old hag (Though NO one's better than Toerag!) It's been too long! Dear friend, I beg You stick around - for your peg leg Is needed here (yes, you were missed!) Just seeing your name is pure bliss!! Big hugs to you, thanks for the smile - I sure hope you will stay a while!!! |
