The Wake

I wake to stand, a fallen trust
That reverberates in the dust;
But lasts, to limp in solitude,
A curse on the ungainly shrewd.

And there it wakes a conquered beast,
Still gloating over hearts deceased;
Not realizing the shriven manner
It carries now, with riven banner...

Across the holocaust of dream,
Ambition lost to a dry scream
That wakes the terror-stricken soul,
As it falls through this pitch-black hole...

...To land in some fell waters, deep
And dark, and much in need of sleep.
...to be carried off by the wake
Of all, in life, I chose to forsake.

Happy Anniversary, Linda.

I am not at all sure of this one. I probably should have just passed it by, but I like your poetry so here I am. It might help if I knew who Linda was. I can take an educated guess, but can't be sure.

Hey, Jer.  Linda is that ghost I am still married to, technically and legally... Although I have not seen her in some three years now.  The one who set the bar so high I dare not let others attempt the feat of being anything near close to me.

I only posted this obscure piece here because it is here we met, way back in 1999, before we officially got together in 2000.  Her and I are probably the only two people who could or would understand all of this, if I'm not overestimating that total by one.  She most likely wouldn't even care to try these days.  I guess some morbid part of me just wants her to know I'm still here, literally because of her; and wallowing in regret, as I will until I die, over what I did to her.

Enough said.

Thanks for reading, and for caring.

You're forever one/two of our best poets of the decade+ that we've been here.  I've missed you both for awhile now, and we're all very pleased to have at least one of you back.  Thanks for sharing your innermost poetic thoughts, Mike..

Whew! The backstory is probably as or more troubling than the poem, but, anyways, yeah, I agree with Nan!  Glad you're still here!
